Since its founding in 1917, the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) has been committed to investigating, protecting and making know its material and intangible heritage goods. Over the years, the institution has acquired various collections from donations, inheritances and research projects from personalities of historical and artistic relevance related to the history of the PUCP.

Thanks to this interest, there are currently different academic units and museums of the PUCP that are responsible for safeguarding the various pieces of heritage value that are in their custody.

Among the PUCP units that are in charge of this important work, we can mention archives such as the Riva-Agüero Historical Archive and the University Archive, the Repositories, museums such as the “Luis Repetto Málaga” Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions and the Josefina Ramos de Cox Archeology Museum, the Library System with its Special Collections and the Riva-Agüero Institute Library, the Film Library, among others.

Riva-Agüero Historical Archive

It was founded in compliance with the will of José de la Riva-Agüero y Osma. The Archive preserves and manages various collections from the 16th to the 20th century, integrated by postcards, manuscripts, printed matter, daguerreotypes, photographs, engravings, caricatures and cartographic material.

University Archive

It compiles documents that are part of the historical and institutional memory of the PUCP such as the notebooks from the University Archive, institutional photographs and the collection of the institutional journalistic publication (PuntoEdu) from its appearance to date.

PUCP Repository

Collects and organizes documents of an academic, scientific and institutional nature that are guard by the PUCP for dissemination. Among the archives are books published by the Editorial Fund, research theses, academic journals, conference proceedings, among others.

“Luis Repetto Málaga” Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions

It has more than 10,000 pieces of popular art of diverse origins and materials that have been collected since the mid-20th century with the aim of safeguarding and making know the intangible heritage of indigenous peoples.

Josefina Ramos de Cox Archeology Museum

It preserves and disseminates the archaeological and historical heritage coming from the research carried out by the Archeology Seminar of the Riva Agüero Institute from 1958 to 2005, as well as from the multiple donations received from the 1960s to the present.

Julia Codesido House Museum

The Julia Codesido House-Museum was the residence of one of the most important peruvian indigenous artists of the 20th century. It was designed by Codesido and by the artist who influenced her work, José Sabogal. Her works and the artist's workshop are displayed in the different environments oh the house.

Library System

It integrates the eight PUCP libraries. The special collections section has letters, drawings, photographs, books, manuscripts, among other materials considered special for their uniqueness, economic, historical and bibliographic value.

PUCP Film Archive

The PUCP Film Archive was founded in 2004 based on the purchase of the documentary collection of the Lima Film Archive. Currently, it has 6 archives: film, photographic, bibliographic, documentary, iconographic and video.

PUCP Infrastructure Direction

Within the University campus there are 3 archaeological sites of the Maranga Complex. Thanks to the research carried out, an important collection of heritage assets has been formed, such as those at the Huaca 20 site, a settlement from more than 1,500 years ago.

PUCP Cultural Affairs Direction

The Carmen Saco collection is made up of drawings, sculptures, newspaper clippings and notes by the important artist and intellectual of the 20th century, where social problems are highlighted. In addition, Saco was a collaborator of Amauta, a Latin American avant-garde magazine.

Given the comprehensive and humanistic training promoted by the PUCP, research and cultural dissemination play an important role for the university, hence the importance of knowing, preserving and disseminating the different heritage assets it guards. The PUCP generates new knowledge and provides contributions to strengthening the country's cultural identity.
