Collecting : From Palace to the People

Collecting is the beginning of the establishment of Suan Pakkad Palace Museum. It is originated from the interest in collecting antiques of the owners of the palace, the Prince and Princess Chumbhot.

Love and appreciation in the value of art, culture and antiques led to the collection of antiques, art objects and various collectibles. Those were the personal collections of the Field Marshal H.R.H. Prince Paribatra Sukhumbhand of Nagor Svarga, the Father, who had collected additional collectibles and the things that were brought to him later. From this reason, Suan Pakkad Palace has a large collection of antiques and artifacts.

Later, Prince Chumbhot began to bring the collected antiques for decorating the Thai houses. The collection beginning from with personal interest became a museum that is open to outsiders since 1952 onwards. This is considered the first case in Thailand where the owners of the house opened a museum for the outsiders to visit while still staying.
