Design revolution does not necessarily have to mean to a drastic nor dramatic change and instead can refer to a revolution of 'rediscovery', 're-establishment', and 'reproduction'.

LuminousGwangju Design Biennale

Since 2020, the paradigm of relationships has been changing amid major life changes underway around the world. In this time of prevailing uncertainty, it is necessary for us to prepare for even more powerful, revolutionary changes.

The overall theme is 'd-Revolution' and beyond, in relation to 5 keywords which are Data (information), Dimension (dimension), Day (everyday), Doing (action), and Description (expression). Thus, the message of the Theme Hall is to encourage visitors of the 2021 GDB to envision these themes automatically with d-Revolution, and beyond ━ just as we have already become accustomed to associating the concepts of 'convergence' and 'new technology' with the
4th Industrial Revolution ━ in order to reevaluate the world around us. For instance, analog interpretation of cuttingedge technology can be found in the Theme Hall.

Unhealed LightGwangju Design Biennale

Unhealed Light

Gwang ju (光州: City of Light) is still a work in progress. Light is hopeful, but it can also be hopeless. In this respect, the value of light is interpreted differently depending on which perspective you see it from.

The artist is trying to show reality through these photographs. A person in the middle of an incomplete light ignores or distorts the social flow.

Stack and Stack (In Pandemic)

Since the COVID-19, in just one month, 129 billion disposable masks have been dumped around the world. Haneul Kim hopes that the curiosity of the recycled masks does not stop at the object of chairs but evokes the seriousness of environmental pollution in the long term.

The chair, made by bending an iron plate from unprocessed raw material, resembles the simple and practical principle of Hangul. The type composition using of YoonGothic’s Hangul font was added to express the diversity, scalability, and infinite growth potential of Hangul.

Accoje entrée

In the day and night at sea, the island becomes the sea, and the sea becomes an island. The sea becomes a workplace for haenyeo (female divers in Jeju), and the island becomes a place of rest.

The block can be a seat, a low table, or a stool. The designers in Normal Studio call it a ‘support’. They have done away with the legs to avoid defining the object by a stylistic element and steer clear of the usual stools and low tables models.
