“…This Lacquer Pavilion painted in gold on black lacquer is not only a rare artifact, but it is also a masterpiece artifact. It would have been lost to our knowledge had not the late Prince Chumbhot preserved it for national property…”

Since the Suan Pakkad Palace was opened to the public as a museum for 70 years, it has served as an organization that preserves many antiques, artifacts and valuable architecture.

Whether it is the Torso of Uma, Khmer art of Sambor Prei Kuk style, regarded as the oldest Khmer sculpture found in Thailand or Artifacts from Ban Chiang archaeological sites including architectural masterpieces such as the "The Lacquer Pavilion", an ancient Thai wooden house interiorly decorated with the beautiful lacquer work from Ban Kling Temple, Ayutthaya Province which the Prince and Princess Chumbhot redeemed, renovated, and moved to store at Suan Pakkad Palace in 1959.

Apart from various interesting exhibitions, the Thai houses that are on display are equally important. The oldest Thai house aged about a hundred years ago originally belonged to Somdej Chao Phraya Borom Maha Phichaiyat (That Bunnag), who was the great-great-grandfather of the Prince.

In 1994, these Thai houses were chosen as the excellent conservation building by the Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage.

With the intention of the Prince and Princess, Suan Pakkad Palace became the learning area for arts and culture and antiques for the public by maintaining the atmosphere like in the past. This reflected the vision and interest in the art and culture of the palace’s owners that is still useful for future generations to have the opportunity in studying, appreciating, and realizing the value of art, culture, and antiques according to the spirit of the founder until now.
