Welcome to Tlatelolco

Located just North of the historic center of Mexico city, Tlatelolco is the location of many important events in Mexico's history and serves as a touchstone for remembering past tragedies and losses while also showing the resilience of the Mexican people.

Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation

With support from the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, CyArk traveled to Tlatelolco to provide training to local professionals and digitally document the historic buildings of Tlatelolco. Project partners produced an educational tour and high-resolution data to support conservation.

Building Capacity

In March 2022, CyArk provided a series of workshops on 3D Documentation of cultural heritage and digital storytelling for a group of 20 young people from the cultural sector of Mexico.

3D Documentation

Working with CyArk, workshop participants used laser scanning and digital photogrammetry to digitally document six sites in Tlatelolco.

Laser Scanning

Laser scanning was completed of the roofs of key structures that were damaged from the September 2017 earthquake including the Church of Santiago.

Interviews with the Community

Workshop participants also recorded interviews with experts and community members who shared the ways Tlatelolco has represented innovation and resilience. The participants created a script for the virtual tour.

Building the Virtual Tour

The 3D data and video interviews collected by the participants and CyArk were processed and used for the production of a virtual tour of the key sites in Tlatelolco.

Explore the Tour

The tour is available in Spanish and English and includes the voices of experts and community members seeking to raise public awareness of the relevance of heritage to protect it.

The digital experience will support greater awareness and dialogue about the important events that took place in Tlatelolco and the importance of protecting and preserving cultural  heritage.

Creating a Record

The data will be delivered to heritage professionals in Mexico to support the conservation of the unique architectural heritage of Tlatelolco.
